For those who perished in the Holocaust there is no final resting place. For every victim whose name is known there are many more whose names remain lost forever to family and loved ones. There are hundreds and thousands monuments on Earth where people put ashes and remains of their family members, relatives and friends who died in German concentration camps. And not just remains but their spirit is commemorated there. If you come across such place, please remind yourself of man’s enormous cruelty to man, remember of it casts its shadow upon every one of us as members of the human race.
Today voices of over six millions Jewish people speak to us from the Abyss. They call to the living in many languages and dialects, from countless cities, towns, farms, countrysides. They call to us from places where they fell – from town squares and prison cells of Poland and Austria, from shores of Baltic and France, from roadsides and ditches of Ukraine and Russia, from railcars in Hungary and Greece, from camps in Germany. Yet for all their different origins, dialects, families, places of birth these voices speak as one. We as human beings must hear these voices from the Abyss as our precious life rests not on our ability to see what makes us different, one from another, but rather on our ability to recognize what makes us the same.
